Pay-Per-Click, PPC, Not as Effective as Link Advertising

Working within the search engine marketing business, SEM, I’ve heard many theories and statements made with regard to search engine rankings and how best to promote a website to the top of the search engine. From new business owners to individuals who are blogging to their heart’s content, there is much confusion over how to dominate the search engines.

While Yahoo and Google do provides some opportunities for advertising your businesses, products or services, these advertising options should not be used alone. To effectively dominate the search engines, it is important to diversify your internet marketing and advertising campaign.

Link advertising has become increasingly more common in recent years. Unfortunately, many website owners, and bloggers, are unfamiliar with the power of text link ads and, for that reason, I’m going to try to describe why it is better than pay-per-click advertising.

Let’s say you own a pool supply company. When we look at the search engine tools and keyword search reports, it seems that over 30,000 people per month, are typing in the keyword “pool supplies” into the search engines. So, where does your company fall in the ranking of results? Since the search engines generally default to the top 10 search findings, your company, in all likelihood, is not on page one – and probably not on page two or even page three.

But, you say, you’ve been using the “highly touted” Google Adsense and Yahoo marketing programs. Why is your site not reaching these 30,000 Internet searchers? Because pay-per-click advertising is rotational, often in shaded top headers or sidebars of the search engines, it is pretty much luck of the draw in how many people will see your site. While you only pay for people who actually “click” on your search results, the goal should not be to count “clicks”. This is simply a waste of marketing dollars. We can compare that to people driving down the street and you only spend marketing dollars on those who actually drive to your store. This, in marketing strategy, makes absolutely no sense at all.

Instead, you want to advertise and market your company in a way that it returns in a more natural search result. Remember those 30,000 internet searchers who were looking for “pool supplies”? You want to reach them! To do that, it is important to get your website to return into the top 25, and even the top 10, search results. But, how do we do that.

Through a diversification of marketing campaigns, using inbound linking, your website can be promoted through the search engine results. Inbound linking can be static links, rotating site-run links, blogs about your company, even “billboards” attached to high quality sites. The options are virtually endless. While there are many companies that offer reciprocal linking and paid posting services, these services, alone, will not drive your website to the top of the search engines. To achieve optimal results, you must diversify your campaign.

Finding highly regarded search engine marketing, SEM, company is important to your investment in marketing your business. With thousands of internet searchers looking for your business, it is well worth the investment to develop an internet marketing campaign that will reach those same individuals through a more organic search approach. With over 80 percent of all internet searchers choosing to link to sites on page one of their search results, and often never clicking on side bar, pay-per-clicks, link advertising gives you the best rate of return on your investment.…

How Back to School Marketing Can Help Your Business

Inexpensive Publicity
Media attention can be hard for small business owners to obtain. This is one reason you should consider back to school marketing. If you have planned a large community event to distribute free school supplies, that will catch the attention of local media reporters. While the main goal of a back to school event is to get your business in front of customers, you can obtain even more exposure with the media. This could make it easier to get publicity in the future during special events that your business is sponsoring.

It is helpful, especially if you have sent out press releases before and had no response. These documents can be expensive to distribute. A back to school event will allow you to collect contact information of local reporters and contact them again. Due to the school supplies event, you are able to get media attention without paying more money. It is an additional opportunity to gain more revenue in the future.

Long Term Exposure
Students use school supplies all year round. That means there are multiple chances to expose your business and services to potential customers. Many high school students hang out at their friend’s house and join community organizations. One person that has a notebook with your business logo on it may expose that notebook to dozens of other people during a tutoring session and other activities. That creates long term exposure for your business and more opportunities to gain customers and sales.

Repeat Customers
By marketing your business using school supplies, this can create multiple sales from individual customers. The long term exposure mentioned in this article will produce interest in your business. Once you have provided a good service to customers, they will remember that and become a loyal supporter of your business. This chance for continuous revenue is worth hosting one single back to school event for local residents. School supplies materials are in demand and it is important to take advantage of the opportunities that small businesses have in this area.

Good Deed
Many parents cannot afford to purchase all of the required school supplies for their children. This is a good reason to provide free items for students. Just because you own a business does not mean that money should always be the primary focus. Good deeds go a long way and exhibits high character. This can help you personally and professionally, as grateful parents will recommend your business to their friends.…

Green Life After Death

Many of us do our best to live an environmentally green lifestyle, making changes in our routines that include everything from adjusting the thermostat to putting bricks in our toilet tanks. But what about continuing that green commitment into our deaths and even beyond? The preparation of our bodies and subsequent rituals upon our deaths can be environmentally destructive. From carcinogenic embalming fluids to hardwood caskets, following traditional funeral and burial protocols take their toll on the environmental health of those we leave behind. We do have options, however, that allow us to leave this world in the same manner we occupied it – eternally green.

Embalming – One of the major components in traditional embalming fluid is formaldehyde, which is a proven carcinogen. A study released in 2009 by the National Cancer Institute reported a link between exposure to formaldehyde and a higher incidence of death from myeloid leukemia. There are eco-friendly options for embalming, however, including one substance that is formulated from nontoxic and biodegradable essential oils. In addition, according to the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), no US state actually requires embalming. So unless a body is being transported in between states or on an airplane, it may not even be necessary.

Burial Vessels – The UCS reports that, ” Caskets, grave liners, and vaults in U.S. cemeteries use more than 30 million board feet of hardwood, 100,000 tons of steel, and 1.6 million tons of concrete each year.” Green alternatives include sustainable soft woods, or even biodegradable cardboard. You will need to shop around for an accommodating cemetery, however, as many have their own requirements, including some that are mandated by state law.

Cremation – The process used in traditional cremation produces significant amounts of carbon dioxide, and with about one-third of Americans choosing this option, that’s a lot of greenhouse gas. A more environmentally-friendly option is called resomation. This process “uses water, heat, pressure, and potassium hydroxide to decompose bodies; the bones that remain are processed into a fine powder.”

The Eternal Gift of Green – If cremation is your decision, you may want to take the ultimate green step and consider having your cremated remains mixed with concrete and fashioned into part of a memorial reef to provide valuable habitat for hundreds of aquatic species of both flora and fauna. Family members can even be involved in the casting of the reef, and choose their loved one’s final resting place from a list of reefs in progress. See Eternal Reefs for more details.

Five of the World’s Most Unusual, Eco-Friendly Home Furnishings

With all this talk about taking care of the Earth, and learning to efficiently use the world’s resources, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at some inventions that are little known to the rest of the world. There are plenty of us who religiously and meticulously separate our waste materials. But it seems that there are organizations who are taking the “green” movement a little bit farther than the average consumer. In my quest for life’s most interesting conversation pieces, I lucked up on a several different mind-blowing home decorating options (most of which are made of recycleable materials). Mind you, each and every one of these are fully-functional, and in most cases, some of the most beautiful pieces of home art you’ll ever find…

  1. A FIREPLACE IN YOUR TABLE – Those not fortunate enough to have a cozy spot in the house for gathering around a toasty fire are finally in luck. Schulte Design is marketing a line of furniture called “Fire Furniture”, with one of the more popular pieces being a small coffee table which has a fireplace integrated into the center of its structure. In case you’re worried about pollutants, do not be. The fire is created with a liquid that is emission and smoke free.
  2. BOOKSHELF…OR COFFIN? – The Shelves for Life, which made their debut at the [Re]Design 06 exhibition in London, are perhaps the most functional bookshelves ever invented. After you’re finished using the shelves to hold your most precious literary items, you can use them to hold your most recently deceased. Yes, the contemporary, multi-slat shelves can be dismantled and re-assembled into a fully functioning coffin.
  3. THE KITCHEN CHAIR– I know what you’re thinking. There isn’t any thing strange about a chair being in the kitchen. But what about a chair that actually doubles as a kitchen? Vestal Design has developed a home décor solution for those with extremely limited space. The DoubleSpace Kitchenette is essentially a chair which can be flipped over (via an internal swivel mechanism) and used as a fully functioning stove.

The “kitchenette” contains a countertop and two stove burners. It was also designed with a safety feature which will not allow the stove to be operable when the unit is used as a chair. Furthermore, the device is mobile, and can be rolled around at your leisure. Under the assumption that one will never cook and sit at the same time, this unit was developed to conserve both space and energy.

  4. DINING ROOM IN A BOX– This isn’t a reference to a bucket of chicken, or any variation of “boxable” fast food. The MealBox, created by Igland Design is actually a complete dining room set which fits neatly into a cube measuring almost a 1 ½ feet high.

The furniture itself consists of several jigsaw puzzle-like slats which fit snugly together to form a low coffee table or mini-dining table. The six “chairs” are simply stackable seats which closely resemble foot stools covered in “tush-sensitive” Neoprene rubber seating. This dining room can be taken literally anywhere.

  5. AN IV FOR YOUR HOUSEPLANTS – Green thumb? What’s that? Everyone who has attempted to grow houseplants and failed understands that these lovely greenies need water, sunlight, and lots of happy conversation. Sometimes, we forget to supply the first ingredient.

But if you happen to have Vitamin Living‘s I.V. Plant Pot, then you shall fear no more the imminent death of your beloved household plants. This contraption is a real I.V. which continually provides your plant with its necessary nutrients. When the clear I.V. bag goes a bit flat, you’ll know that it’s time to fill up your plant’s water supply once more.

As I combed the internet and browsed various sites, I was amazed at exactly how many different kinds of companies there are which are solely dedicated to providing innovative solutions to space and energy conservation. By taking a closer look at how we use our square footage and energy, it’s possible to discover brand new ways of conserving the earth’s resources.…

Beliefs of Methodists

Methodism is a Christian movement which makes up 70 million of the some 2.2 billion Christians in the World. The Methodist movement was started in the mid 18th century mainly by the works of John Wesley. Many Christian denominations have the same core beliefs but are very different in other ways. Methodists like any other Christians follow the readings of the New and Old testament of the Bible. They believe in an all knowing loving, God. They believe that after death in the afterlife there is a Heaven and Hell and your actions on earth determine whether you join God in Heaven or Satan in Hell. They believe that Satan resides in hell and tries to do ban on Earth.

Methodists believe in free will. Which means they believe that people make their own decisions and have, “free will,” in their lives, they do not believe that God makes their decisions or has a great plan for them. Another one of Methodists core beliefs is one shared by most Christian denominations and that is they believe in the trinity, and that means that they believe that God is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They believe that God the Son and God the Father have the same nature and being. They believe they are all three ever loving and omnipresent.

Next is their views on Jesus Christ. They believe that he came into the world through the virgin birth of Mary. They believe that he was crucified and three days later resurrected. Which means they hold Easter as a holy holiday. They also believe that he was the Son of God and at the same time God himself in another form.

Methodists like other Christians believe in spiritual salvation. Spiritual salvation is the belief that god saves people from biological death and spiritual death by giving them eternal life in Heaven. Methodists however unlike other Christian denominations, believe that the only way for you to make it to Heaven and get eternal salvation is by Accepting Jesus Christ into your life. They believe good acts alone cannot get you into Heaven but that you must worship, love, and accept Christ into your life while living on Earth. They show their denotation to Jesus Christ by getting baptized and accepting Christ into their life. They try and do good deeds in Jesus’ example however when their good deeds go wrong due to sin they ask him for forgiveness for their sin. This is not to be confused with the practice in Catholicism where they admit their sins to the priest.

Methodists, unlike Catholic denominations, do not worship saints or hold them in any high regard, they seem them merely as people and not saints. They believe Mary gave birth to Jesus and was a very important lady but not that she was a Saint and someone you need to worship and look highly upon.

Way to What?

Yesterday morning as I was reading a comment left by a friend on an article that I had written awhile back, I was overwhelmed by sadness. This friend does not believe in Jesus or in salvation or in the Creator God. The ending of my article said, “When I step from this life, I will step into eternity and into the presence of Jesus.”

My friend’s comment was, “Hey, when it’s over, it’s over! LOL”

Sadness. I didn’t see any humor in her comment because I believe when this life is over eternal life is just beginning. I have had these conversations with unbelievers before and I have even had conversations with God on which words to use. I am a firm believer that we should be salt and light – but I also believe that being too salty or too bright can be a turn off rather than enlightenment.

I tweeted a simple sentence recently, “one sun, one moon, one heaven, one earth, one exit, only One entrance. Do U know Jesus? He is the Way.”

I received a private email response that said, “Way to what?”

My initial thought was to just write back, “Into Heaven.” But what does that say to someone who doesn’t believe? It doesn’t say very much. I waited, I prayed, I remained still waiting upon Him to answer me.

On an unrelated matter, my husband is using his unique gift of cooking as his ministry this weekend. He is the Head Chef for the Kairos prison ministry. My gift is prayer, so I signed on to be a prayer warrior at 6 am this morning to pray for the team that will be ministering to the female prisoners. As I was doing the devotionals for my husband and the team, I came across the answer that I was looking for to give to the question, “Way to what?”

The Way to the Creator God.

Look around you, God’s fingerprints are everywhere. Psalm 19 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God…Day after day they pour forth speech.” The Creator God provided a Way to return to Him through His Son, Jesus. You can dwell in His presence for all eternity or you can dwell in hell. You have a choice.

New York Radio Station WFAN Advertising Illegal Fireworks

WFAN is among the most popular radio stations broadcasting from New York City. Its sports talk format gives it a large male demographic of listeners who tune in to hear the latest news and opinions on their favorite sports teams. It is perfect for a company looking to sell fireworks for the Fourth of July. The only problem is fireworks are illegal to possess by most, if not all, of the radio station’s listening audience.

I am an avid listener to the WFAN radio station as I have a two-hour commute each way to and from work each day. I am a sports fan who enjoys the banter between the various hosts and the listeners mostly over the numerous professional sports teams that play in the New York/New Jersey area. While many times I will tune to another station at the first hint of a commercial, occasionally I will just sit through them as I navigate traffic.

It was during one of these times that I was a little shocked to hear a commercial for Pocono Fireworks. While I am not naive enough to think that fireworks are not obviously sold somewhere, I also know it is illegal to possess fireworks in the states of New York and New Jersey without special permits. Those permits are only issued to professionals in most cases.

Fireworks are banned in four states, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Massachusetts. New York laws state the possession of fireworks are illegal with a maximum fine of up to $250. However, if the fireworks are valued over $50 the offense is upgraded to a Class B misdemeanor with a $500 fine.

New Jersey’s laws are even tougher on the possession of fireworks. If you are caught using them the penalty is up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine. An individual convicted of possession of fireworks with the intent to sell faces a fine of up to $7,500 and up to 18 months in jail.

Pocono Fireworks certainly knows fireworks are illegal to possess in New York and New Jersey. The lawyers for the WFAN should know the product being offered to their listeners is illegal. Yet the commercial is running on their airwaves.

Should we believe then with what everyone knows, and the fact that the audience of WFAN are primarily residents of states which ban the sale of fireworks that Pocono Fireworks is running the commercials in hope of luring these listeners to cross state lines into Pennsylvania for the possession of an illegal product. In addition does this make the radio station complicit in promoting an illegal activity?

The advertising dollar is not as easy to come by as it once was, but one has to wonder if a radio station as popular as WFAN really needs to run commercials from companies with a questionable motive. I just hope no one gets hurt from a firework bought from Pocono Fireworks by a listener of WFAN.…

So

Here is the last song

I will sing tonight,

My hands and eyes betray me,

To finish and complete

That last stanza.

I have lived long enough

To place my voice

In that garden

Where tomorrow is poetry

And prose for that supposed love.

The universe is universal

In our ever constant restraint,

So we say.

But in the after-thought of you

I will remain in the exigency

Of tomorrow-until

I remember the cruelty of want.…

How to Live a Green Life: Four Books to Help You Get Started

As the call goes out for industries, businesses and the all important consumer to become more eco-conscious and live green lives you may find yourself wondering, “What Can I Do?”. In fact it’s a very good question I am surprised to hear more and more often from those interested in going green. If you did not have the advantage of say, growing up in a huge scouting family where the organization’s appreciation for nature and conservation practices trickled into everyday family life then you might need some help getting started.

Just changing a few ways we do things each year really does make a difference. Some of my friends start small, making a couple changes that do not fit into their everyday lives, and when they cannot directly see the results they stop. Other friends of mine have noticed big changes right away and gone completely fanatical annoying even me, a self proclaimed flower lover and occasional tree hugger. So, rather than starting your new green life by adopting a panda (which is admirable if this is your passion) or by installing a new roof entirely made from solar panels try changing fours to six ways you live and I guarantee you will notice the results while your new habits become second nature.

To help you decide what changes are right for you and your lifestyle check out some new great reads, all available from amazon, that offer more than the usual recycle/reuse story. A couple books offer new innovative ways to go green and clean up your act while others are full of inspiring stories to make this planet of ours cleaner, safer and better off.

Worldchanging: A User’s Guide To The 21st Century

At first glance I thought the only types that would enjoy this book were the fanatical friends of mine installing solar panels that I mentioned earlier. After thoroughly reading through the many sections of this book I have found that there are simple as well as huge ideas for helping you live a green life. In fact using this book you could design an entire house from the ground up using eco friendly materials in eco friendly ways. Along tith the more ambitious projects are simple everyday things we can do in our lives to help curb our impact on the planet.

365 Ways To Change The World: How to Make a Difference One Day at a Time

I like this book for the variety it has giving the reader tasks to do every day of the year allowing you to directly notice change or inspire you to create your own changes. Not every day calls for a new project or a change in the goods and services we use. There are days you simply meditate and others asking you to talk to others about a global crisis.

The Rough Guide to Shopping With a Conscience

The information presented in this book will change the way you as a consumer shop forever. At times thinking back on the way we have shopped in the past may lead to feelings of guilt, do not let it! Put that energy and thought into positive change that the author helps you achieve.

The Business of Changing the World

The stories offered in this read are not so much ways to change how you life but stories of how others have changed the lives of others or the world around them. This book describes big businesses at their best, detailing the ideas and actions taken by company leaders and employees. Some of the stories are truly inspirational and give you a new appreciation for the companies and the fundraising efforts they support.…

How to Make Your Kids Environmentally Conscious

What better way is there to create more environmental activists than by educating them from a young and tender age. However if you haven’t done this yet, it is never too late to start. There are many ways in which to do this. Here are some ideas.

The first and most important step is to lead by example. Show your children how you separate your trash and recycle, avoid littering, save electricity by not leaving unnecessary lights on, support green efforts and generally care for the environment. Let them see how you make your own green cleaning products. Get them a pet or pets like goldfish, which should be their responsibility to take care of.

Make environmental activities fun. Plant your own organic vegetable garden and let your kids help you with this. Involve them by getting their input on what to plant, let them plant the actual seeds and encourage them to care for the garden by watering it everyday.

Go on nature outings. Take them to nature reserves and game parks if you can, where they can see animals in their natural habitat. If you don’t have one near you, take them to the zoo, as well as aquariums, bird parks and aviaries. Take them for nature walks, pointing out interesting plants and birds en route. Give them disposable cameras and encourage them to take pictures of the interesting things they see.

Education is paramount. Read stories to your kids about Earth Day and saving animals and the environment. Let them see documentaries on saving the environment. Talk to them about environmental issues, like oil spills and endangered animals, and mention extinct animals like dinosaurs and dodos by way of example. Ask them for their ideas on how to save the environment and reducing our carbon footprint.

On rainy days, get your kids to make items by using recycling discarded items like egg cartons, plastic bottles, corks, bottle caps, toilet roll holders, grocery bags and popsicle sticks. They can even make a bird feeder or bird house. There are lots of ideas on the Internet on how to make these things.

Celebrate environmental days like Earth Day by going to a public park and picking up litter.

Spend some environmentally conscious quality time together. Have an outdoor picnic (weather permitting) with healthy, green foods. If the weather permits, have a night party. Gather everyone, get some warm blankets, lie on the lawn and look up at the stars! You can play a game of Spot the Stars. This way they learn about astronomy too.

Together, we can save the planet, by making a difference, one by one.
